Each year, the Houston Rodeo Uncorked Wine Competition chooses a specific wine region to highlight for the annual contest. Wines from that region compete for additional awards and the right to be named Regional Class Champion. For the 2019 competition, the highlighted region was Central Coast, California. We are delighted that our first Bordeaux blend from Central Coast that we produced with our friend and fellow winemaker Denise Valoff was named Regional Reserve Class Champion amongst all of the Bordeaux style blends.
This blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 5% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc is a nod to the historic and famous wines of the left bank of Bordeaux. It was aged for 18 months in French Oak barrels. 2014 was a banner year in the Central Coast region for spectacular weather, and that translated in to a powerhouse of a wine with nice structure and silky tannins. This wine is ready to drink now and does not need decanting. Pair with beef bourguignon or blue cheeses.
