We are thrilled to announce that the 2014 vintage of this wine was awarded a Double Gold Medal and Class Champion at the 2019 Rodeo Uncorked International Wine Competition!

We are proud to release the 2015 vintage of third wine in our virtue series: Courage. Our first vintage of Courage was bottled just after Hurricane Harvey and the Napa Valley wildfires that tested our collective humanity. Moved by the generosity and strength of neighbors and first-responders, Courage honors the sacrifice and bravery of countless unsung community heroes. The 2015 vintage of Courage has special significance since we were blending this wine during the harrowing days of the 2018 wildfires that devastated entire communities.  We pay tribute to the courage and tenacity those heroes have shown by coming together to rebuild their lives in the face of extreme adversity.

The backbone of this wine consists of some unlikely bedfellows, all farmed from family-owned vineyards on the valley floor of Napa Valley.  Whereas the 2014 vintage incorporated some grapes from vineyards in Mendocino County, this 2015 vintage is 100% Napa Valley grown grapes.  The origin of these superior grapes is an indicator of the quality and value of this epic blend.  A full 64% is Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Merlot balances and softens the powerful fruit components in the robust Cabernet Sauvignon. The next 23% is Napa Valley Zinfandel, a powerhouse grape that add texture, weight, body and longevity. The final 10% is Petite Sirah which adds a deep purple color and blackberry jam aromatics. 3% of the wine is Malbec and Petite Verdot to add roundness and structure, respectively.

Each of these grape varietals were aged separately, in oak barrels, for a minimum of 18 months until they acquired the perfect balance of fruit (black cherry, blueberry, and blackberry flavors abound) and baking spice aromas (think cocoa, vanilla, nutmeg, clove, anise). The blend was allowed to settle for 9 months, giving the grapes time to come together and “get to know each other.”  The result is complex, delicious, and layered with flavor. This wine opens beautifully with 30 minutes of decanting. It pairs with savory winter dishes like Beef Bourguignon, smoked turkey stew, and roasted root vegetables.

Tasting notes: Black Cherry. Stewed Fruit. Blueberry. Vanilla Bean. Baking Spices.

PNP. We enjoyed this wine last week. I think it needs another month or so to settle. Or decant. Nose of plum, blueberry, violet, and saddle leather. Palate smooth, balanced acidity and tannins.
