The Adobe Road Cabernet Franc vines at Bavarian Lion Vineyard in Knights Valley are deeply rooted in rocky volcanic soil with alluvial deposits, providing excellent drainage and coaxing unrivaled complexity out of the resulting grapes. The wine is able to achieve full ripeness while remaining relatively low in alcohol, something rarely seen in this variety when grown outside of the Loire Valley or Bordeaux. Aromatically exciting, the nose beckons with crushed wild blackberry, teak, leather, sweet basil and green tea leaves. On the palate, the wine is seamlessly balanced, with a laser-like focus of fresh acidity and soft, sweet tannins. Flavors of cranberry, persimmon, black plum, chocolate-covered strawberry and espresso bean play off of the sharp minerality and build to a persistent finish. This wine will drink well in its youth with a bit of air, or age gracefully in the cellar for five to seven years.
