2013 Vintage Notes:
The 2013 growing season was a warm, dry spring brought early bud break, helped with canopy vigor and berry size and created ideal conditions for flowering and fruit set under sunny skies. With the exception of one heat spike in late June/early July, temperatures were consistently in the zone for optimal vine activity, resulting in notably healthy vines as fruit went through veraison and started ripening.
Influenced by the cooling effect of the Pacific Ocean and a combination of summer fog, warm days, and a long growing season, the Carneros became an official AVA in 1983, its unique characteristics based on climate and on its geographic features – the Pacific Ocean, the Coast Mountain Ranges and the San Francisco Bay – that affect the region's terroir and put a distinctive stamp on its grapes.
With the longer hangtime in Carneros, this Merlot developed rich classic characteristics with an added richness. Its brilliant red in the glass, with aromas of Dark Cherries, Plums, all spice and sweet vanilla. On the palate its rich and has sweet cherry fruit. A long finish with a touch of tannin. A great match for wild game, lamb and fall dishes.
