We jumped at the chance to make four barrels of Malbec from a steep vineyard site on the slope of Mt. Veeder, an appelation of Napa Valley, California. Most of the Malbec planted on Mt. Veeder is for blending and most winemakers don't make a single varietal Malbec, since the fruit on Mt. Veeder is too expensive to blend in a normal year. So we were able to take advantage of this small amount from a rare, quality crop and do what we do best: make Malbec!
The steep mountain slopes and higher elevation vineyards of Mt. Veeder have cool afternoon breezes and warmer nights, creating microclimates that produce rich mountain fruit with distinct character. As a result, this Malbec tastes like a $150 Cabernet Sauvignon! You will be hard pressed to find someone who can blind taste this and know that it is a Malbec.
Our sold out 2013 vintage won Reserve Grand Champion, Best of Show at the 2017 Houston Rodeo Uncorked Wine Competition.
With tasting notes of black cherry, chocolate, cherry cordial, cardamom, clove, and vanilla - it's a flavor bomb. After 30 minutes of decanting, pair it with a juicy steak. Can cellar until 2025!
