The Ramian Estate Reserve Zinfandel is exclusively from our 120+ year old vines. On the nose, juniper berries, blackberry, sweet black figs with notes of gardenia and white pepper. Framboise chocolate cordials, ripe persimmon with hints of clove, cedar box and dried sage dominate the palate of the wine. An extremely full bodied, long finish completes this cellar worthy wine for at least 10-12 years.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
This Calistoga vineyard property was the original homestead of Captain Reason P. Tucker, who gained notoriety for leading the efforts to rescue the survivors of the ill fated Donnor Party in 1847. Situated 300 feet above sea level lending to cooler temperatures at night providing optimum growing conditions and ultimately better structure in wines. Some of the highest percentages of volcanic type soils in the Napa Valley are located in this area providing high amounts minerals and nutrients for the vines. The complexity of these soils is ideal for cultivating optimal flavors in the grapes, making Canard a perfect vineyard site. The Palisades mountain range air movement provides cool breezes through the Northwest corridor, drastically cooling the area down during warmer periods helps with natural acid retention, great structure and age-ability in our wines.
Production Notes
Ramian Estate grapes for this wine come from out “120 Block”; they are at least 120 years old in age. They pick in multiple picks to make sure the fruit comes in at its peak of ripeness during the early morning hours to preserve maximum fruit expression. Up to 4 picks can be needed even on this tiny little section of our vineyard. The fruit was then immediately sorted then crushed and sent to stainless cooled tanks to rest and cold soak prior to yeast inoculation for 3 days. The wines were fermented slowly over 2 weeks with a average maximum temperature of 90°F to preserve the color and intense fruit aromas. A total of 21 days on the skins. Aged in a blend of new (50%) and seasoned French oak barrels for 21 months. Each varietal is constantly monitored to insure tannin balance is achieved. The cooperages selected for our Merlot dominated blend were: Leroi, Nadalie, Mercurey.
