We produced only three barrels of this special wine. It is rare not only because of the scarce bottles produced, but the unique combination of its growing location at the top of Mt. Veeder in Napa Valley and the use of the obscure grape varietal, Counoise (pronounced “Coon-wahz”). This special blend is a mountain-top version of a French Châteauneuf-du-Pape blend. It is 41% Syrah 23% Mourvedre, 12% Grenache, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 23% beautiful, magical Counoise What is Counoise? It is a component of many Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines, providing much needed balance to the characteristic intense spice, strong tannins, and high alcohol of Syrah. Counoise has moderate alcohol and tannins, juicy fruit, bracing acidity, and supple aromatics. In short, it is lovely.

Our version of Counoise is a deep purple-red with intense flavors of anise, strawberries, and blueberries. It has aromas of vanilla bean and smoked bacon intermingled with ripe blackberry jam. It is aged for 22 months in French oak barrels, which contributes to its velvety texture and opulently long finish.  We suggest decanting this wine for 20 minutes prior to serving.  It is ready to drink now, but can be cellared and enjoyed until 2025.

Tasting Notes: Cranberry. Cherry. Blueberries. Vanilla Bean. Smoked Bacon. Ripe Blackberry Jam.
