In the last 20 years Bordeaux’s appellation of Margaux has undergone a revolution in quality, perhaps more than any other region in Bordeaux.  Among those leading the charge are the 5 Sichel brothers, heirs to a famous dynasty of negociants.  Just as an indication of how connected they are in Bordeaux, in 1938 the family joined a syndicate of partners to purchase Chateau Palmer and in 1961 they purchased Chateau Angludet where several members of the family currently live. Both estates sit in the legendary appellation of Margaux.

Despite owning one of Bordeaux’s most respected and priciest estates, Chateau Palmer, the brothers realized that in order for Bordeaux to stay relevant as a category for the average consumer there also needed to be bottlings that came in at reasonable prices.  This is tough in an appellation like Margaux where land prices can run more than a million dollars per acre.

So, the brothers created their OWN value priced Margaux using grapes from the 2 estates they own, Chateau Palmer and Chateau Angludet and then depending on the year they may also blend in grapes from grower partners in Margaux with which they have long term contracts.  In 2015 the blend is 50% Cabernet, 45% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot.

The wine is elegant in the extreme with tremendous concentration.  A classic Margaux with beautiful perfume and smoothness.
