Bodegas Añadas is a historic, family run winery in the wine growing region of Aragon, Spain, just to the west of Barcelona on the way to Madrid. The region has been producing wine since 3 B.C.- a very long time! The winery’s newest brand name, Care, is the ancient name used by the Romans to refer to the town of Cariñena in Aragon where the winery is located. The name is derived from their roots and their love for the land. It is a term of affection for the countryside, which they called “flat-face.” Of course, in the English-speaking world, it also refers to the care and the respect that Añadas shows in making all of their wines. The odd faces on the wine bottle label are meant to impart a modern twist to the old winery. Each one is the original work of the artist Enrique Torrijos.
The grapes for this particular wine come from the Bancales vineyard, and the vines for this 100% Garnacha (Grenache) wine are more than 80 years old. The wine was aged for 14 month in French oak, giving it a very rich and full-bodied flavor and texture. It is luscious and fruit-driven while maintaining bright flavors of red berries and spice. A bit of toast flavor adds to the elegance. Due to the age of the vines, this grenache is easy drinking without the harshness of tight tannins. This wine will pair well with grilled meats or light marinara sauces. It also has a slight element of spice making it a good match for herbed chicken or herbed pork loin. It does not need to be decanted.
