We fell in love with this 2007 (yes 2007, the vintage of the decade) Claret- a Bordeaux style blend- and we were lucky enough to get the last cases of it for our club members. It is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon from Vine Cliff's hundred acre estate in Oakville. The wine has powerful fruit flavor and low tannins, elegant and approachable, but clearly has developed exceptional complexity with bottle age. Aromas of both red and dark fruits, with blueberries and red cherries take center stage. Hints of spice, bay leaf and cocoa add layers of complexity and character. On the palate, shades of mocha and molasses from the French oak provide a complexity that lingers through the finish. As for food pairings, this claret is made for steak, lamb, duck, or just about anything off the grill. Enjoy now without a need for decanting- it has already been aged for you!
