In a homage to the first winemakers who planted the first vineyards post Gold Rush in Napa the fine folks at Cultivar produced their first field blend. Those early farmers planted their vineyards not with one varietal, but a mix of varietals. While the Merlot, Malbec, and Petite Verdot are from an actual field blend in the vineyard, there is a touch of old vine Petite Syrah as well.
The wine is a dark intense purple with just a touch blue hues, as you can imagine what follows on the nose is black berries, cassis, blueberries and a sweet touch of Vanilla and Oak. The wine is rich on the palate, almost lip smacking. Sweet black currant, blackberries, and cherry flavors with a silky dense long finish.
Pairs well with chicken, burgers or ribs just off the grill or barbequed meats.
