Aged for 22 months in French oak before aging a full year in the bottle, this 2019 Periwinkle vintage is a special blend of Grenache (40%), Syrah (30%), Mourvèdre (18%) & Counoise (12%) from one single family-owned estate at the top of Mount Veeder. This is our own take on the classic GSM, (Grenache, Syrah, Mourèdre) blends of the Rhone Valley, France. Only 95, cases were produced making this 2019 our most limited production Periwinkle wine in history. The wine exhibits a deep dark red ruby color, with light purple hue and almost opaque center. In the glass, aromas of dried cherry, cedar, pomegranate, baking spices, and dark mocha intoxicate the senses. Striking flavors of red plum, blueberry crumble, and a touch of clove compliment the silky-smooth texture and long finish. Well balanced with enough structure and power to age gracefully.
While this wine is ready to drink now, due to its structured tannins, it requires decanting for a minimum of 30 minutes. This cellar-worthy wine will age gracefully for the next seven years. Bring out your inner child and pair this luscious wine with a grilled meats or a classic mushroom dish.
